Lancaster University Library Exhibition

The People's Gothic - Craftmanship and Artistry in the North West

Curated by Brian Hodgson (PhD candidate, Ruskin Library and Research Centre, Lancaster University)

Brian Hodgson's research has led him to believe that Ruskin's definition of the Nature of Gothic can be seen as a craft based definition (picked up by the Arts and Craft Movement). In this exhibition several craft features from churches and allied buildings (not all strictly Gothic) in the North West are presented and Ruskin's definitions applied. The concept is part of Brian's PhD thesis.

This exhibition is free and is situated in the exhibition space on the ground floor of the main university library. Please see Library opening times for access.
