Sociology Departmental Seminar with: David Landy (Lancaster University)
Date: 18 January 2011 Time: 16.15 - 18.00
Venue: FASS Meeting Room 2/3
'Bourdieu and solidarity movements: A programme of action'
What does Bourdieu, the theorist of social stasis, have to say to those in transnational movements for social change, and to those researching these movements?
In this seminar I investigate the particular nature of solidarity movements, their programme of action, and the questions that 'movement-relevant theory' should ask about these movements.
The example I use is the Palestine Solidarity movement - a transnational movement in all senses of the word in that it is based in a multiplicity of countries and concerned with an issue in a different country.
Please join us for wine and discussion in the Sociology department after the seminar.
