Hindpal Singh Bhui, HM Inspectorate of Prisons - 'Understanding the treatment of foreign nationals in detention'

I cordially invite you to a seminar on Wednesday 9thNovember at 4.30pm to celebrate the contribution to scholarship ofour colleague Professor David Smith.
David is nowin his final academic year before retirement and this seminar is thesecond in a small 'testimonial' series weare holding in his honour.
The seminar will be presented by Hindpal Bhui Singh*, from the HM Inspectorate of Prisons.
The seminar will be held in meeting room 2/3 in the FASS building at 4.30pm on Wednesday 9th November.
Tea will be served at 4pm and light snacks and wine will be served to lubricate conversation directly after the seminar from 6pm until 7pm.

Hindpal Singh Bhui is an Inspection Team Leader in HM Inspectorate of Prisons, which conducts human rights based inspection of all forms of custody. He specializes in immigration detention, race equality and foreign national prisoners. He was formerly a Probation Officer, a foreign national prisoner specialist, a Senior Lecturer in Criminal Justice, and, for ten years,editor of the Probation Journal. He has received awards for his practice and policy work in both the probation and prison systems. He has published a number of papers on probation, prisons and race equality and most recently an edited book, 'Race and Criminal Justice'(Sage Publications 2009).
