Debt Workshop: Cultural, Moral and Political Economic Dimensions
Date: 12 July 2012 Time: 9.30am - 5pm
Venue: Bowland North Seminar Room 23
The aims of the workshop are to develop a critical understanding of debt in contemporary economy and society, be it consumer debt, corporate debt or public debt, in all their economic, political, cultural and moral dimensions. We expect that speakers will address a range of topics that might include debt in relation to the crisis,in relation to the financialisation of everyday life, moral economy, sovereign debt, and so on. The approach will be postdisciplinary.
Our two keynote speakers will be Professor Mary Mellor, Northumbria University, author of The Future of Money (Plute Press, 2010) and Dr Johnna Montgomerie, CRESC, University of Manchester, who has worked on consumer debt. Othercontributors include Andrew Sayer, Sylvia Walby, Bob Jessop, Michael Kratke, David Tyfield (all Lancaster), and Dong-jin Seo (South Korea). The programme will ensure plenty of time for discussion.
Spaces are limited so if you wish to come, please email Andrew Sayer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There will be a charge of £15 (£5 unwaged) for delegates from outside Lancaster University.
