Justifying assent to research: Why we need children's assent to research
Date: 12 March 2014 Time: 4.00pm - 5.00pm
Venue: Bowland North Seminar Room 25
A paper by Dr Mark Sheehan, Ethox Centre and Institute for Science and Ethics, University of Oxford.
The main focus of the paper is on the involvement of the child in decisions about their participation in research, with particular emphasis on contexts where the benefit to the child is at best uncertain and where there is no doubt that the child lacks the capacity to consent. Its central concern is the justification of an obligation to involve the child in some way in the decision-making process and the process of participation.
