Corinne May-Chahal elected Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences

Date: 18 March 2014

Professor Corinne May-Chahal has been elected an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences. She becomes the fourth Academician in the Department of Sociology, alongside Distinguished Professors Bob Jessop, John Urry and Sylvia Walby.

The honor of Academician is conferred to scholars who have made a significant contribution to social science, over and above the normal requirements of their posts. New Academicians are elected by a group of peers in recognition of their exemplary work. Professor May-Chahal has a longstanding record of excellent research on keeping vulnerable children and adults safe, and it has already made a considerable impact in areas such as child protection. We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.

The Academy of Social Sciences is composed of over 900 Academicians and 46 Learned Societies in the UK, and its mission is to promote social sciences for the public benefit, including through sponsorship of the Campaign for Social Science.
