New Royal Literary Fund Fellow - Joining us in October 2014

As we get ready to say goodbye to our current Royal Literary Find Fellow, Philip Cavneny, we look forward to welcoming our Fellow for the 2014-15 academic year, Helen Farrall.

Helen Farrall is a screenwriter, storyliner and development consultant. Her TV credits include Emmerdale, Doctors, Crossroads, Dream Team and Bad Girls. She also wrote for BAFTA and RTS award-winning children's shows Grange Hill, Children's Ward, Jeopardy and Byker Grove, and has created and written award-winning online educational games such as Smokescreen for Channel 4 Learning. Most recently Helen wrote 10 episodes of Bing Bunny, a new pre-school animation that will air on CBeebies from June 2014, and 4 episodes of the much-loved Thomas and Friends that will be broadcast in 2015. She is currently pitching ideas for another iconic pre-school animation.

Helen previously worked in community theatre and theatre-in-education, and in 1996 her screenplay 'The Hangman's Daughter' won the runner-up prize at the BAFTA/ Carl Foreman Awards. She has extensive experience as a screenwriting tutor and mentor at institutions such as the University of Salford, Liverpool John Moores University, Cornerhouse and Contact Theatre, as well as various training schemes in the UK and Eire. Helen was previously the RLF Fellow for the Universities of Central Lancashire (2007-2009) and Chester (2011-2012), and served as an Advisory Fellow from 2012-2013.

Helen was born on the Wirral and graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Film & Television Production. She lives in South Manchester with her husband, their daughter and their two cats.
