Dr Hayward's research interests are centred on the history of the cult of saints, political practice in medieval Europe with particular reference to Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Norman England, and the writing and practice of history in the European Middle Ages. In 2011-12, he was a member of the School of Historical Studies at the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, USA.
