Introduction to Masters Study in Philosophy
The MA programmes in PPR are based upon - depending on the specific programme - a combination of advanced level taught courses, self-directed supervised study, and a substantial dissertation. They are usually taken full-time over one year, but may also be taken on a part-time basis over two years. The MA is a widely recognised qualification in its own right, providing advanced training beyond first degree level, and also prepares students for the more intensive research of the PhD programme.
PPR offers the opportunity to engage in postgraduate study in philosophy via a range of taught masters degree programmes. You can study philosophy on its own, or in combination with other subjects, including Politics, Religious Studies or with Law. Our taught masters programmes allow students to develop their philosophical knowledge and expertise and also to acquire a range of critical research skills that are useful and relevant to employment. The taught masters programmes also provide a solid grounding for further postgraduate research in philosophy at MPhil, or PhD level. The programmes start in October and (for full-time students) run to the end of September in the following year. Students take a combination of core and elective modules and write a dissertation with an academic tutor.
MA Bursaries of £1000 each now available for 2013 entry.
