Fees Bursaries

The application form can be found here.

Applications are invited for departmental and faculty bursaries in the following categories:

  • MA 1 Year (overseas)
  • MA 1 Year (Home/EU)
  • MA 1+ 3 years (Home/EU)
  • PhD 3 years (Overseas)
  • PhD 3 years (Home/EU)

The bursary will be paid in the form of a fee-waiver for the period stated above for full-time programmes and will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for part-time programmes. Those currently undertaking postgraduate study at Lancaster are not eligible to apply for this award.

Please submit your completed application from to the Postgraduate Co-ordinator. Applicants must already hold an offer of a place to study in PPR and be due to commence their studies during the 2015-16 academic year.

Completed forms should be submitted as an email attachment to pprpg@lancaster.ac.uk no later than Friday 17th April 2015. When completing the form, please indicate the MA programme on which you have been accepted and, in no more than 300 words, explain why you should be awarded the bursary. MA Bursaries of £1,000

We are offering bursaries of £1,000 to be used as a contribution to postgraduate fees related to full-time study on one of the Department’s MA Programmes commencing in October of 2015. Please submit your completed application from to the Postgraduate Co-ordinator  via  pprpg@lancaster.ac.uk. Applicants must already hold an offer of a place to study in PPR and be due to commence their studies during the 2015-16 academic year.

When completing the form, please indicate the MA programme on which you have been accepted and, in no more than 300 words, explain why you should be awarded the bursary. Ninian Smart Memorial Bursary 0f £1,000

We are also offering a bursary of £1,000 to be used as a contribution to postgraduate fees related to full-time study on one of a number of the Department’s MA Programmes.

Applications are sought from overseas students from Asia (broadly interpreted) who have been accepted to study on one of the following programmes:

  • MA Religious Studies
  • MA Religion and Conflict
  • MA Religion and Diplomacy
  • MA Philosophy and Religion
  • MA Politics, Philosophy and Religion

Completed application forms should be submitted as an email attachment to pprpg@lancaster.ac.uk no later than (TBC). When completing the form, please indicate the MA programme on which you have been accepted and, in no more than 300 words, explain why you should be awarded the bursary.

ESRC home page
Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Studentships

Lancaster University forms part of the ESRC's North West Doctoral Training Centre (NWDTC). 63 studentships, covering tuition and maintenance, are available for those wishing to study in areas covered by the ESRC at Lancaster, Liverpool or Manchester. Some studentships are reserved for students seeking joint supervision across two or more partner institutions.
Applicants must be planning to study Politics in a Global World (PhD International Relations) or Security, Conflict and Justice (PhD Politics) which are ESRC-approved pathways.

Students will normally have been offered a place at one of the three NWDTC institutions prior to their studentship application, on one of the programmes eligible for NWDTC funding. However, studentship applications will be accepted from students who have submitted their institutional application but have yet to receive a formal offer, providing that such an offer has been made by the time of the Studentship Allocation meeting. Applicants should apply directly to fass-pg@lancaster.ac.uk on the appropriate form; guidance notes are available hereThe deadline for applications is 2 February 2015.

Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Doctoral Training Partnership Studentships

In association with the North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership (NWCDTP), Lancaster University has access to 40 AHRC studentships per year over a 5-year period covering 2014-15 to 2018-19.  
Applicants to PPR must be planning to study in Philosophy and/or Religious Studies.


Students should normally have been offered a place at Lancaster prior to submitting their AHRC studentship application. However, AHRC studentship applications will be accepted from students who have already applied for a place at Lancaster but have yet to receive a final offer, providing that such an offer has been made by Lancaster by, at the latest, 23 January 2015. When completing the AHRC studentship form, applicants should liaise with prospective supervisors.

The deadline for applications for 2015-16 is 13 February 2015.

A number of funding opportunities are available for international students through the British Council, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office the Department for International Development and the Higher Education Funding Council for Englad (HEFCE).
