Clubbing Research

Welcome to Clubbing Research, located within the Department of Applied Social Science at Lancaster University, UK. This website is the home of academic research on legal and illegal drug use, night-time economies (NTE) and electronic dance music (EDM) club cultures or 'scenes'.

Clubbing Research is run by Dr Karenza Moore and Dr Fiona Measham. Between us we have nearly three decades combined experience of researching alcohol, drugs, EDM scenes and of course going clubbing. We are interested in the roles that raving, clubbing, and related legal and illegal drug use play in the lives of young (and not so young!) people today. Using a variety of methods including in-club surveys, NTE surveys, interviews, participant observation and policy analyses, we are attempting to 'build a picture' of the British NTE (and specifically of the activities of those participating in EDM club cultures or 'scenes').
