The subheading 'Memory/Modernity and Culture' includes, but is not restricted to, the following themes: reflecting the collective voice; autobiography/memoirs/epistolaries.

This subheading formed the focus for a day conference held on 3rd July 2004 with the guest speakers Lucia Graves, Matthew Tree and Miquel Berga: 'Reciprocal Gazes on the Iberian/British Other: Cultural Decline as Raw Material for Narrative Excellence'. Two of the papers resulted in the following publications:
