Worlds of Literacy 2.0
Date: 26 September 2014 Time: 9.30 - 4.00
Venue: Midland Hotel, Morecambe
Special guests: Brian Street and Roz Ivanic
This event celebrates the formal retirement of David Barton and Mary Hamilton, although they will keep a link with the university through a new 2 year ESRC grant (with Karin Tusting) on academics writing. In keeping with the tone of their work over the past 25 years, we will be as forward looking as we are backward gazing.
Members of the Literacy Research Centre will be discussing Literacy Studies (also known as New Literacy Studies) with a number of invited guests including plenary speaker Brian Street, Emeritus Professor of language in education at King's College London and Visiting Professor, University of Pennsylvania.
It is twenty five years since the Worlds of Literacy event was held at the Midland Hotel, Morecambe and we are delighted to be returning to the location of discussions where the original book "Worlds of Literacy" edited by Mary Hamilton, David Barton and Roz Ivanic, began to emerge.
