The rationale behind this edition is Ruskinian in two important ways. There is the prioritising of the visible, through which images - rather than transcriptions - of texts are used whenever possible. This is in keeping with the sense of history that we are trying to articulate. Second, there is the importance of organic development to the project as a whole, making this in Ruskinian terms more of a Gothic, than a Classical, enterprise.
