How to apply

The application process and requirements will vary depending on the pathway of study you decide to pursue - MA/PgDip in Advanced Social Work, short courses or one-day workshops.

Once you have decided to apply, please start your online application as soon as possible:

The information below will explain the entry requirements and guide you through the application process:

MA/PgDip Advanced Social Work

Entry requirements

  • a lower second class honours degree in Social Work or a Social Science subject OR
  • a degree level qualification in a related profession such as nursing OR
  • a Masters degree in Social Work AND
  • current or recent practice experience as a qualified social worker

Application process

  • The application has to be submitted online via My Applications system.*
  • Please select MA in Advanced Social Work in the 'Programme' drop-down menu
  • Please see below for information on required documentation, which needs to be uploaded along with your online form.

Short Courses

Entry requirements

  • a lower second class honours degree in Social Work or a Social Science subject OR
  • a degree level qualification in a related profession such as nursing OR
  • a Masters degree in Social Work AND
  • current or recent practice experience in health or social welfare profession

Application process

  • The application has to be submitted online via My Applications system.*
  • Select "Social Work Institutional Credit (Postgraduate)"
  • As part of the online application, you will be asked to upload a 'Personal Statement' in which we would like you to state which of the 'Short Courses' you wish to apply for.

Workshops

Entry requirements

No specific entry requirements.
Workshops are aimed at professionals working in health and social welfare services.

Application process

You can navigate straight from the One-day Workshops section of the website by clicking the Lancaster Online Store link relevant for a specific workshop you are interested in.

Navigate to the Lancaster Online Store by clicking the link below. Then, go to the 'Product Catalogue' and 'Conferences and Events' section within it. All scheduled Advanced Social Work workshops are listed under 'Sociology' tab

*NB If you are not able to us online application website, please contact us to arrange for a paper copy application

Please note that using the online application process - MyApplications - you will be advised which documentation you need to upload or send to the University.
The supporting documentation screen will provide you with a list of required documents. These will usually include:

  • transcripts of previous higher education (college/university) degrees or other courses that you have completed/for which you are currently studying. Note that, for transcripts in languages other than English, a certified English translation will be required.
  • references
  • for those for whom English is not their first language, copies of English language test results

Language requirements

If English is not your first language or you currently live outside the UK and you wish to pursue MA/PgCert pathway, you may need to meet additional requirements:

  • IELTS of 6.5 (with at least 5.5 in each element) OR TOEFL 93 (with at least 20 in each element) OR Pearson 62 (with at least 51 in each element)
  • The 4 week EAP course may be offered to applicants who have attained an IELTS score of at least 6.0 overall and no individual element below 5.5.
  • The 10 week PELP course may be offered to applicants who have attained an IELTS score of at least 5.5 overall and no individual element below 5.0.
