STS/GWS Admixtures Seminar Series - Erasing Vanessa: Bisexual Identity, Contested Canonicity and Fan/Creator Interaction Around Pacific Rim

Date: 11 March 2014 Time: 1.00-2.00 pm

Venue: Bowland North Seminar Room 21

John Carter McKnight, Department of Sociology, Lancaster

The high degree of fan interaction with the creators of the film Pacific Rim (2013) points to emergent questions in fandom and media studies. This work examines critical fan discussion on Tumblr around the problems of gender and sexual preference in Pacific Rim fandom and fan fiction, along with evolving fannish concepts of ontology associated with transmedia texts when authors and actors engage with fan communities.
