GWS406: Feminist Technoscience Studies

The module will run as an intensive workshop over 4 days.

This module offers an advanced introduction to feminist technoscience studies, which is one of the most interesting new fields of feminist interdisciplinary research and scholarship. The module will focus on theoretical and empirical developments, as well as key debates. It will ask what counts as ‘science’ and ‘technology’, how are they imagined and practiced, and how scientific and technological knowledges are produced, circulated, and deployed.

Theoretical debates will be introduced and investigated through a specific empirical topic. The topic for this year will be ‘Brains, Minds and Bodies’. The teaching format will involve a combination of lectures, text workshops (working closely with key texts), and practice-based workshops (working with empirical materials). The rationale behind this is to combine theory and empirical work.
