Graduate Media and Cultural Studies

Mengting JiangHi everybody,

I’m Mengting, a graduate in Media and Cultural Studies. I started my college life in Lancaster University in 2007. My three-year undergraduate study in Media and Cultural Studies has enabled me to acquire broad knowledge of how changes in society influence our social life and the dynamics of society, and how these issues relate to individuals in contemporary integrated society. The modules which you can choose in the Department of Sociology are very varied. What I especially enjoyed is the module about ‘Consumer Culture and Advertising’ which provided me with a wide range of topics, such as new media technology, mass communication, language in advertising. In addition, I really enjoyed the modules about gender and female identities that gave me the idea to do research about the influences of popular culture on female identities in my dissertation.

I really enjoyed life in Lancaster University, both personally and academically. I believe you will get what you expect from your course in the Department of Sociology, they won’t let you down! Just enjoy it!

Mengting graduated from the BA (Hons) in Media and Cultural Studies in 2010 and in 2011 is studying on the MA in Human Resource and Knowledge Management, Lancaster University.
