Mersey Care provides specialist mental health services in North West England and beyond with a vision to become the leading organisation in the provision of mental health care, addiction services and learning disability care. 

Mersey Care provide specialist inpatient and community mental health, learning disabilities, addiction services and acquired brain injury services for the people of Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby, Merseyside. Mersey care also provide secure mental health services for the North West of England, the West Midlands and Wales and specialist learning disability services across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside and are one of only three trusts in the country that provide these services. 

Mersey Care clinical services are provided across 36 sites across the North West. Over 5000 staff serve a population of almost 11 million people.

Mersey Care are three years through a five year programme of organisational and service transformation in order to improve the quality of the care that they provide and safely reduce costs, so that they can continue to invest in meeting increasing demand for their services. As such, Mersey care are following a plan for the year, that describes how they will transform services provided in their local and secure divisions, invest considerably in new buildings and technology, and very importantly, support their frontline staff to continue to improve the service they provide.

In 2015/16 Mersey care provided care, treatment and support to almost 42,000 people across Liverpool, Sefton, Kirkby, and neighbouring St Helens.

During 2015/16, Mersey Care:

  • Provided care, treatment and support to 41,934 service users (41,173 in local services and 761 in secure services)
  • Was dispersed across over 32 sites both of its own and premises rented from others
  • Had 639 inpatient beds as at 31 March 2016 
  • Had 377,150 outpatient attendances and contacts.

In July 2016, Mersey Care acquired Calderstones NHS Foundation Trust, enhancing the provision available to LD service users.
