University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) is committed to providing opportunities for clinical research and development.

Developing a research active culture brings a host of benefits for patients, clinicians and the NHS. It drives innovation, gives rise to better and more cost effective treatments, and creates opportunities for staff development. Growing evidence also suggests that NHS organisations that are research-active appear to do better in overall performance.

UHMBT is a member of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) North West Coast Clinical Research Network (NWC CRN). The CRN has provided much of the research infrastructure and research support funding currently in place in the Trust.

We also have close links with many of the local NIHR topic research networks including cancer, diabetes, medicines for children and stroke.

The Trust has a growing number of research collaborations with Lancaster University, predominantly through the Medical School.

The Trust is a member of the Lancaster Health Hub. The Hub facilitates collaboration between colleagues in NHS Trusts and researchers at Lancaster University in the development of high quality, clinically relevant research.

This close co-operation helps to facilitate growth in research activity, training and infrastructure with the aim of underpinning the development of locally led research. As part of the Faculty of Health and Medicine, the Hub is also involved in research teaching and training.
