Negative portrayals of communities can affect health and well being in a number of ways, including stigma, stereotyping and by influencing whether people visit or want to live in an area. Funded by the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences and organised by Lancaster University researchers, the workshop will explore how communities and practitioners can take action to tackle this issue. This includes publicity work to promote good news stories in the media, festivals and cultural events to encourage people to visit or physical improvements to neighbourhoods to increase pride. The event is free but registration is essential.
