The degree will provide you with training in key aspects of biochemistry and biomedicine that are at the heart of modern biochemical and medical research, giving you an insight into how biochemistry can be used to develop treatments for diseases. We have extensive links with local hospitals, both in research activities and teaching on our biomedical-based courses.
The first year of the BSc Biochemistry with Biomedicine is designed to provide you with a broad overview of both subject disciplines, including Molecules of Life, Biomedicine and Society, and Anatomy and Tissue Structure.
In your second year, you will move on to a range of biochemical and biomedical subjects, with several modules designed to help you develop the key laboratory skills required by scientists working in these areas. Modules include Medical Microbiology, DNA Technology and Cell Biology.
In your third year, you can tailor your degree to your personal and professional interests, selecting from a diverse range of optional modules including Tropical Diseases, Medical Genetics and Biology of Ageing.During your degree, you will conduct your own laboratory-based project and benefit from the research experience of our internationally renowned academics.
