Case Study: Dr Sarah Green

"I have had spells of both part-time and full-time working since the birth of my daughter in 2003, and have had experience of doing so across three different HE institutions.

"My decision to join the Engineering department at Lancaster in 2011 was positively influenced by a constructive attitude to work-life balance on the part of both the University and the department.

"Through this, my reduced hours have been accommodated equitably, enabling me to contribute to a range of research, teaching and academic leadership roles within the University and to support the professional engineering activities of my engineering institute (IOM3), whilst still having the time and energy to enjoy my daughter’s childhood.

"With regard to flexibility, diversity and equality of opportunity, the HE sector and Lancaster University in particular, is an excellent place to work and has a good track record and much to recommend it."

Dr Sarah Green is a Senior Lecturer in the Engineering department.
