What you need to know on your graduation day.

Graduation day information

When you collect your graduation tickets in June, you will find enclosed a Graduation Day Leaflet with a campus map, indicating the location of all Graduation Day activities.  Download the iLancaster App for a quick overview of Graduation Day information for students and guests.

As graduands are required to line up in processional order one hour before the ceremony, important information concerning your Lining Up Venue will also be outlined in the leaflet.

Arrival on campus

Two hours before your ceremony, please arrive on campus and make your way to collect your robes. No parking charges operate on Graduation Day so you can park for free in any marked space on campus, except Blue Badge spaces, for which you must hold and display a valid Blue Badge. For further information on parking spaces please see our campus map.  If spaces near to the Great Hall are full, you may wish to drop off guests opposite the Chaplaincy Centre and park elsewhere.

Gown collection

Collect your gown from the LICA building and make your way to the Great Hall. Gowns will be available for collection on the day of your graduation and must be returned on the same day.

Please ensure you have ordered your academic dress from the University's official supplier Ede and Ravenscroft prior to your graduation. You can order your academic dress here.

Lining up

One hour before your ceremony, report to your lining up venue in the Great Hall, leaving personal items such as handbags with your guests. Details of lining up venues will be included with your tickets and will appear here once available. During the lining up process, you will be briefed on the ceremony, put into processional order and given your name card (from which your name will be read on stage). Following lining up, you will process into the Great Hall about 15 minutes before the start of your ceremony. Guests should arrive to be ushered to their seats one hour before the ceremony begins.

The ceremony

The entrance of the academic procession formally opens the Ceremony which will last about an hour. During the ceremony you should follow the directions of Marshals who will guide you through what you should be doing and when.

Live Webcast

We offer a live webcast of each ceremony on Graduation Day. 

Guests without tickets to the ceremony can watch the ceremony live on big screens in the Faraday Building. This venue is staffed and fully accessible, with Degree Day programmes available on request.  No tickets are required for the live broadcast venue.

Studio photography

Lancaster University's Print & Photography are the official University photographers and will have their sales and studio area conveniently located adjacent to the gowning area in LICA. Please see the Print & Photography website for more information about the packages available. College photography 

There will be a college photogrpah taken in Lancaster Square of each college either before or after their ceremony. Please see below for the times of each college photogrpah and before this time, make your way to the photography standings in Lancaster Square.

Food and drink on campus 

There will be various outlets on campus which will be open during graduation week.

The Mill at Fylde: 10am - 8pm, serving breakfasts, main meals, snacks and alcohol

Cafe 21: 8.30am - 4.30pm, serving vegan and vegetarian breakfasts, lunch, snacks and coffee

The Northern Oak at County:  9am - 6pm, serving Costa coffee, snacks and alcohol

The Herdwick at Graduate College: 8pm - 11pm, serving award winning cask ales, malt whiskies and real ciders
