Postgraduate Prizes

Below are two prizes that are awarded to students within the History Department on an annual basis.

M F Howson Prize

The M F Howson prize is open for competition among graduate students holding a degree of any university who are registered for any higher degree at Lancaster University. The prize (to the value of £100) may be awarded annually for an essay in local history to be submitted to the head of department. The prize was first awarded in 1968.

The head of the department of history or his deputy will be glad to advise intending candidates on the suitability of the subject on which they propose to write.

Queen’s Studentships

The regulations for the Queen's studentship and scholarships are available in the department of history. Awards are made by the Senate on the recommendations of the head of department of history each year to the best qualified candidate for a graduate course or a research degree in history (studentship of £300, first awarded in 1967).
