Certificate for Staff

The Certificate in Academic Practice (CAP) is an in-service programme designed to support and accredit the academic development of a range of staff who teach and support student learning at Lancaster, including:

The taught programme is divided into two linked modules, CAP 1: Developing Higher Education Practice (DHEP) and CAP 2: Curriculum Design and Development (CDD), both @ 30 level 7 credits. More detailed information in response to questions frequently asked about the CAP programme is available here.

Timetable CAP 1: Developing Higher Education Practice (DHEP)

CAP Module leaders will use your CAP application form to determine which of the two possible routes is most appropriate given your prior HE teaching experience. Please fill in the application form as completely as possible to help tutors with this process.

A complete timetable for the next year will be sent to successful applicants, but key dates are:

DHEP Early Career Route
  • For early career academics (with less than 3 years teaching experience in an academic role)
  • 3-day induction workshop Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th and Friday 27th September
  • Future sessions taking place on alternate weeks, either Tuesday or Thursday mornings from week commencing 21st October (Wk3).
  • Due to high demand for places we have a second cohort for CAP running in January.
  • The induction event will be on the Weds 8th and Thurs 9th January 2014.
  • Future sessions of 1.5 hours will take place on alternate weeks, either Tuesday or Thursday mornings from week commencing 13th January (Wk1) in Lent and Summer terms.
  • DHEP Experienced Route and CDD
  • For experienced academics with three or more years teaching experience in an academic role
  • Induction event Wednesday 2nd October
  • Future sessions taking place in the afternoons on alternate weeks:
    Tuesdays 22nd October, 5th and 19th November, 3rd December or
    Thursdays 24th October, 7th and 21st November, 5th December
  • Two day induction for Curriculum Design and Delivery (CDD) on:
    7th and 8th January 2014
  • Three 2 hour sessions in the afternoons on alternate weeks:
    Tuesdays 28th January, 11th and 25th February or
    Thursdays 30th January, 13th and 27th February
  • Assessment and dissemination of good practice events on:
    27th March, 29th April, 6th May and 5th June
  • Participants will need to attend for part of the following days:
    20th May or 3rd June
  • The workshop days run from 9:30-4:00 and are usually held in the teaching rooms in the HR Building.
