Is this course for me?
This course is for managers, area safety officers, supervisors and anyone who needs to take a lead on or overview risk assessments.
Risk assessment is fundamental to the management of health and safety and underpins the regulatory approach within both the UK and Europe.
This course will provide all the fundamentals needed to understand risk assessment as well as presenting an overview of health and safety law as it affects the University.
By attending this course you will learn about the University's procedure for carrying out risk assessments including the practical aims of risk assessment and how you can use risk assessments as a management tool. You will also learn about your duty to protect the health and safety of employees, students and others and about sensible risk management principles.
Part of the course will also look at how to produce a safe system of work and the differences between civil and criminal liabilities.
The aim of the course is to reduce the amount of paperwork produced as well as supporting the integrity of research and teaching you to complete risk assessments for real life scenarios.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- To complete general risk assessments and record the significant findings
- Identify where specialist advice is needed
- Understand the importance of safe systems of work and be able to monitor and review such arrangements
