About the Institute for Advanced Studies

lThe Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) was founded in May 2003 as a dedicated research centre of Lancaster University with the primary objective of consolidating Lancaster's position as a leading international centre of excellence in interdisciplinary and postdisciplinary research in Management, Social Sciences and the Arts & Humanities. Its activities also spread beyond these areas. Read our Mission Statement

The IAS encourages interdisciplinary and post-disciplinary dialogue between local, regional and international academic and non-academic colleagues through its annual competition - the Incubation Programme - and also through its Annual Research Programme and Lecture Series.

A fully refurbished building housing the Institute for Advanced Studies was officially opened on 29 November 2005 by the Chair of the Economic and Social Research Council, Frances Cairncross CBE.
