Annual Research Programme

The flagship activity of the Institute for Advanced Studies is its Annual Research Programme (ARP), a series of workshops, symposia and conferences running over a period of 8-10 months around a core theme and involving active co-operation between visiting national and international scholars, the local research community and relevant external stakeholders.

The intention is that this interdisciplinary programme will culminate in an international conference and will generate a series of on-line and printed publications as well as provide a forum for developing new research networks and collaborations.

Programme teams are formed through inter-departmental and inter-institutional collaborations. Proposals for thematic workshops may emerge from smaller projects developed under the auspices of the IAS Incubation Programme.

Visiting scholars who are self-funding and who wish to participate in the Annual Research Programme whilst taking advantage of our excellent research environment and facilities are welcome to contact the appropriate ARP Director in the first instance.

Arrangements for awarding Annual Research Programmes

There are two stages to this:

  • A call for suggested themes
  • A call for proposals against the theme chosen by the IAS Academic Board

The call for suggested themes is now closed.
