Cultural Political Economy Research Centre (CPERC)
Co-Directors: Bob Jessop (IAS) and Ngai-Ling Sum (Politics)
Deputy Director: Norman Fairclough (Emeritus, Linguistics)
CPERC seeks to build on the success of the Cultural Political Economy Research Cluster within the Institute for Advanced Studies and the wider academic reception of the cultural political economy (CPE) approach. At its core will be cultural political economy as an emerging trans- and post-disciplinary research paradigm (albeit one with many pre-disciplinary precursors and more recent prefigurations). It will be organized and run as an intellectual space open to similar approaches and thereby serve as a resource for capacity-building. In this respect, CPERC will promote CPE both as a principal theoretical orientation and method of analysis and as a valuable adjunct to other theories and methods. Involvement in the work of CPERC does not assume prior commitment to the approach but does take for granted interest in the interrelations among semiosis, political economy broadly conceived, and issues of governance, government, and governmentality.
