The Times Good University Guide 2018: all DeLC major subjects are placed in the Top 3 -French 2nd, German 2nd, Spanish 3rd
The Complete University Guide 2018: all our subjects are placed in the top 15 (German 8th, Italian 11th, French, 13th and Spanish, 15th).
The Guardian University Guide 2018 also has us in the top 20 for ‘Modern Languages and Linguistics’. Student satisfaction has increased from 72.5 to 79.4.
The Times Good University Guide 2017: Research Quality within the Department was ranked 4th in German, and 5th in French and Spanish.
Lancaster University also places 58th in the world in the Times Higher Education rankings for Arts & Humanities (2017 Times Higher Education World University Rankings)
National Student Satisfaction survey (NSS) of 2017 graduates: The Department scored an ‘overall satisfaction’ rate of 94% across all three of our core subjects, up from 90% in 2016. More information on this result can be found here.
Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF; 2017) awarded Lancaster University ‘Gold’ for outstanding teaching, an outstanding learning environment and delivering excellent employment outcomes for its students.
in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014), DeLC's scholarship contributed to Lancaster University's excellent results in two different Units of Assessment: 'English Language and Literature', and 'Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory':
- our literary research contributed to a 3rd-place ranking in terms of research power (40% of research assessed in this area is world-leading and 77 % of research ranks as either world-leading or internationally excellent)
- DeLC's film and theatre studies scholarship contributed to Lancaster ranking 17th best in the UK (with around a third of research in this area considered as world-leading).
