Lancaster really is a great place to study. Friendly people, beautiful surroundings and a bustling historic town provide a great atmosphere to live and work in. The university itself, even with well over 10,000 students, still maintains a really close-knit and personal vibe. A large part of this is the college set-up which exists at Lancaster University which means you’re not just part of “the university” but of a smaller group of people who you get to know really quickly and share amazing times with.

The Department of Languages and Cultures itself really maintains this strong friendly and personal atmosphere on a reduced scale. In contrast with other subjects, lectures and seminars are much smaller and you really get to build a relationship with the other students and tutors in your classes which can be lacking in a lecture hall filled with hundreds of students.
