Plant and soil ecology research laboratory

The plant and soil ecology research laboratory is equipped with all the necessary equipment and machines for studying plant-soil interactions and soil biogeochemistry.

As well as basic laboratory facilities we have facilities for analysis of total carbon and nitrogen in vegetation and soils, anions and cations using an autoanalyser, amino acids, organic and inorganic carbon and nitrogen, microbial community structure by phospho-lipid fatty acid (PLFA) analysis and soil density fractionation.  We also have a range field equipment including infra-red gas analyses for measurement of respiration and photosynthesis.

The facilities are used in a range of research projects, as well as for undergraduate and masters student projects.
