Research Overview

My research interests are principally within the fields of sociocultural and legal anthropology, with a particular focus on issues of environmental and social justice concerning the peoples of Central America and the Caribbean. I take an interdisciplinary approach to research, placing a strong emphasis on ethnography to better understand the conflicts that occur between identity politics and colonial/post-colonial state formation & national/international law. My PhD research was conducted with the Garifuna community in Belize and focused on issues of indigenous identity and mobilising around associated rights.
