Research Interests

I am interested in how sex, space and society interact; more specifically, the impacts of living in close proximity to the sex industry on the geographies of everyday life. My doctoral research focused on massage parlours in Blackpool and explored the everyday experiences of local residents and businesses, entitled: "'It's Better than Daytime Television': Questioning the Impacts of Blackpool's Off-Street Sex Industry on People and Place". More general research interests include: conflict and deviance in urban space, sex work, the geographies of stigma and exclusion in everyday life, liminal spaces, and censorship.
