Diffuse phosphorus pollution from agricultural land has been identified as an important aspect of water quality. Worldwide, buffer zones are employed to retard the runoff flow, trap sediments, filter nutrients and pesticides before they reach aquatic ecosystems. My PhD is focused on detailed investigation of mechanisms controlling soil phosphorus dynamics and release to runoff inside buffer system. I seek novel approaches for improving buffer function in order to achieve the desired level of water quality protection.
