Scholarships and Funding

If you are considering applying for a place on a Masters programme at the Graduate School, you may be able to benefit from our range of scholarships and funding streams.

We are pleased to offer a range of scholarships to potential Masters students.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Lancaster Environment Centre Scholarships

Applicants to any of the taught Masters schemes within the Lancaster Environment Centre are eligible to apply for these scholarships. UK and EU applicants may receive up to £1,500, and overseas applicants may receive up to £10,000.

Heatherlea Bursary

UK and EU applicants to the MSc Conservation and Biodiversity are eligible to receive this bursary of £1,500.

Peter John Vincent Geography Prize Bursary

Current undergraduate students of Geography at Lancaster Environment Centre are invited to apply for this award of £1,500. This bursary is allocated to the applicant with the highest overall mark in their undergraduate Geography degree. You should have a place on any Lancaster Environment Centre taught Masters degree in order to apply for this.

Application process

To be considered for the above awards, you should already have an offer of a place on a relevant taught Masters degree and should email the Graduate School Office with a short supporting statement, including your name, applicant ID and reasons why you should be considered for funding (max 250 words).

We want you to focus on how you would benefit from the course, not on financial hardship. Funding will be allocated on the criteria of academic excellence (for example 1st class/high 2:1 undergraduate degree or equivalent), academic performance, publication of dissertation, and relevant work or voluntary experience. We are unable to make decisions based purely on financial grounds, and we are unable to consider applications from current Graduate School Masters students.

Applications for scholarships will be considered on a rolling basis with the final deadline of 31st July.

Alumni Loyalty Scholarship

If you have an undergraduate degree from Lancaster University or one of our partner institutions and choose to study for a Masters at Lancaster, you will receive an automatic fee reduction.  There will be a 20% discount if you receive a 1st class degree and a 10% discount if you have a 2:1.

Postgraduate Loan Scheme

Under the terms of the UK Government’s postgraduate loan scheme, non-means-tested loans of up to £10,000 will be made available to students applying to taught and research Masters courses. These are available to students under the age of 60 across all discipline areas and are considered a contribution toward the cost of your postgraduate study. As postgraduate funding is considered a devolved matter for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, loans are only available for students resident in England. All our MSc and MA schemes are eligible, including the Masters by Research.
