Lancaster Environment Centre would like to invite you to the next in a series of events Global Futures events

‘Exploring burning questions for global society’ on Thursday 21st November 4-6pm

Bridging the Gap Between Evidence and Action

Thursday 21st November 4-6pm

LEC, Training Rooms 1 & 2

All welcome

If the science is so clear, why isn’t it reaching into the political debate? How can the evidence have appropriate impact? How can we overcome the type of denial that accepts the  facts but carries on regardless? What can we actually do once we’ve stopped pretending? What can we (here) do?

There will be short presentations (40 mins maximum this time for all three):

  • Becky Willis. former vice chair of the Sustainable Development Commission and former director of the Green Alliance. Becky has helped to train over 50 MPs from all major parties on climate change.
  • John Foster, from the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion, author of The Sustainability Mirage.
  • Mike Berners-Lee, co-author of The Burning Question and director of Small World Consulting.

This will be followed by 30mins Q&A (30 mins maximum this time!)

Refreshments (less cheese than last time) and chat (as much as we want)

The event will bring together people from across the university, Lancaster city and the local area, so that the question can be explored from fresh angles in a lively but relaxed setting.

For catering purposes please let Helen Boulton know if you will be attending the event before 18th November:  E-mail: Helen Boulton (Future events are likely to look at equality, sustainable economics, biodiversity, responsible business and leadership. We will be canvasing interest next time)
