Work Placements

In addition to gaining a Masters, work experience can play an important role in enhancing your employability. Within LEC, the Enterprise and Business Partnership (EBP) develops links between us and a range of business, industrial and other external partners. It runs the LEC Graduate Consultancy Programme, which provides our postgraduate students with an opportunity to gain work experience by applying their university-gained expertise to perform environmental research for a commercial partner. Placements might last for 2-3 weeks, or could involve you carrying out your dissertation project with the partner organisation. You would work on a well-defined problem, and as well as an industrial supervisor, you would receive guidance from a member of academic staff. We have contacts with over 40 businesses a year for the LEC Graduate Consultancy Programme, both in the UK and throughout Europe. Industrial placement and project partners have included:

  • Apollo Energy
  • Beck Mickle Hydro plc
  • Blackpool Council
  • British Gypsum
  • Envirolink
  • Environment Agency
  • National Trust
  • Nexia Solutions Ltd
  • Small World Consulting
  • United Utilities
  • Wesmar Bioenergy
  • Woods Waste Management
