Improving global stewardship

Cross disciplinary research challenge:

Understanding the sustainable management of the environment to provide the resources needed by society while securing environmental protection.

Context:

This understanding is vital to ensure that the environment continues to supply the resources on which the health, wealth and well-being of all societies depend.

Research focus

We see our strength in our core research disciplines as the foundation for genuinely interdisciplinary interactions that embrace both the social and natural sciences.  We work together to improve environmental resource management in ways that respects not only the need for environmental protection but also for sustainable development that is just, equitable and inclusive

Our research investigates sustainable approaches to:

  • food production,
  • clean air
  • clean water supply
  • soil security
  • energy and essential minerals production
  • ecosystems management, providing a range of services from fertile soils and sustainable pest control to cultural well-being
