Self Development

The extensive variety of extra-curricular activities and volunteering opportunities available at Lancaster will help you to explore your interests and enhance your CV.

Weekly LEC Careers Bulletin

All are welcome to sign up to receive LEC’s weekly careers bulletin, including current students and graduates. This will help ensure that you don’t miss any careers events hosted by LEC and the University, as well as providing information about opportunities for employment and further study.

Current students and staff can sign up using their Moodle login details, whereas others will have to make an open learning account before adding themselves.

LEC Careers Blog

We have recently started a LEC Careers Blog, which is a more informal space for students to share their experiences of finding work, attending events, completing internships, or doing anything that helps them make decisions about their future. We will also have posts by careers advisors and employers. Sign up for the weekly bulletin to receive notifications of new posts.

We are always looking for volunteers to make contributions and help run the site. Please contact Laura Feinberg if you would like to help.

Meet our Alumni

LEC alumni end up in a wide variety of places and positions after their degree. For more examples of what you can do with your degree, see our alumni page.

The Lancaster Award

All of our students are encouraged to enrol for the Lancaster Award. This formally recognises and rewards voluntary work, work experience and participation in careers training programmes offered by the Lancaster University Careers Service.

Lancaster Students’ Union – Get Involved

Get Involved is a central hub for extra-curricular activities, run by Lancaster University Students’ Union (LUSU). Your time at university is ideal for starting new interests or developing existing ones. Get Involved allows you to find out about running a society, playing sport, volunteering and overseas travel.

Green Lancaster

Run by LUSU, Green Lancaster offers placements with external organisations, allowing students to gain volunteering experience at weekends by working in the local community, taking part in a wide range of activities and developing their practical skills. Green Lancaster’s partners include the RSPB, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and many more.
