Environmental Science via OpenPlus
In partnership with the Open University (OU) we offer a route into our Environmental Science and Earth and Environmental Science BSc degree schemes for applicants who do not currently meet our standard entry requirements.
Under OpenPlus you will engage in two years of part-time study with the Open University on modules relevant to your planned Lancaster degree. Successful completion of these OU modules will allow you to transfer directly into the second year of our degree course. You will then have two years of study as a full-time student at Lancaster and graduate with a Lancaster University BSc degree.
During your part-time study with the Open University you will take modules which provide a firm grounding in scientific principles and practice to prepare you for our degrees. Experimental work and field trips are included during residential courses and provide valuable practical skills to supplement your theory courses and reading. On successful completion of all your OU modules you will have the necessary skills to start our degrees at second year level, and you will complete your degree as a full-time Lancaster University student.
OU module requirements
For our Environmental Science and Earth and Environmental Science BSc degrees we require the following OU modules:
- S104 - Exploring Science (60 credits)
- SS001 - Laboratory Skills for Science (3 day residential course)
- SXF206 - Environmental Science (60 credits)
- S151 - Maths for Science (unless applicants have A-level Maths at grade C or above; 10 credits)
This route is open to all prospective students who meet the requirements for study at the Open University. Entry to Lancaster is conditional on passing the OU modules at an appropriate level (typically at least a Grade 3 pass in the second year courses).
For entry to OpenPlus, please apply directly to Lancaster University, not to the Open University or UCAS. Contact us for an application form using the details below.
