15 January 2018
Since opening in January 2016, the stunning, refurbished Library has proved to be exceptionally popular with students.

Its success has been reflected in excellent survey results, including 92% satisfaction in the NSS in both 2016 and 2017.

In 2017, the Library also achieved joint first place in the UK for good library and library opening hours (THES Student Experience Survey 2017).

Improvements continue to be made. An additional 96 workspaces were installed over the Summer in the Reading Room, Postgraduate Study Area and on A Floor. Some informal sofa seating in the Silent Area on C Floor was replaced with formal desking, in line with the study preferences of library users.

Power will be delivered by 18 January 2018 to every desktop in the Reading Room (no more trailing leads and messy floor boxes!), and WiFi has been upgraded throughout the building.

On 30 October, work began to transform the area around Special Collections into a study area. 40 new power and WiFi-enabled workspaces were installed. The area, which has been designated for Silent Study, opened to users on at the start of the Lent Term 2018.

The new workspaces are part of a process of continuous improvement to this popular building. Please let the Library know if you have any thoughts or suggestions on the study environment.
