What We Teach

Art, Design, Film, and Theatre

Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) is a vibrant and highly supportive learning environment. Specialist degree courses in Art, Design, Film, and Theatre are enhanced by an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, which blurs traditional boundaries and explores close links between theory and practice.

Our Department is characterised by tutors who are internationally recognised for their world-leading research, active arts practitioners with robust links to creative industries, and skilled technicians. All of them support you as you develop the skills and knowledge required to become a professional creative artist or manager.

All of our degrees encompass practical, theoretical and critical work, and we encourage you to collaborate with students from other LICA disciplines. Common modules in critical theory and modernism in the arts are accompanied by the option to study within or beyond your chosen discipline.

During your studies you will have access to excellent facilities and our cultural hub, Lancaster Arts, which includes the gallery and art collection, the Nuffield Theatre and our International Concert Series. You will also have access to talks and performances by visiting artists, academics, companies and performers.
