    Linguistics at Lancaster is 19th in the world in the 2017 QS World University rankings by subject, 15th for academic reputation. We have now been in the top 20 in the world for five years in a row.

  • Top 10 in the UK

    Linguistics at Lancaster is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the UK. We are ranked 5th in the UK by 2017 Times Good University Guide and 8th in the 2018 Complete University Guide.

  • The Queen’s Anniversary Prize

    Lancaster University’s world-renowned language pioneers, spanning four generations of researchers, received The Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. The award for Lancaster’s Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science (CASS) was presented at an honours ceremony in the Ballroom at Buckingham Palace on February 25th.

    Linguistics at Lancaster is ranked 3rd for student satisfaction in the UK by the Complete University Guide for 2017.

  • 1 of the Largest Linguistics departments in the UK

    The Department of Linguistics and English Language in Lancaster is one of the largest in the UK, with more than 30 academic staff, 10 Research Associates, and a strong community of around 140 PhD students.

    Our excellence in world-leading research, research impact, and research environment has been recognised by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, which ranked us 3rd for Research Power. We ranked joint 3rd for Research Environment and 7th for impact, with four out of six cases rated 4*.
