Iva Son, a part time LAEL PhD student based in New York, was invited to speak at New York City College.

Iva was invited as guest speaker to a 'Web Publishing' class at New York City College, in the division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education on 2 May, 2017. She talked about basic terms of Web design and Web languages, the current trend of Web design, 7 phases of the Web design process, and a guideline to create an attractive and functional website. She discussed possible ways to improve the student's current website to present the students' essays and poetries in a most adequate form, such as a position of navigation bar, legible font sizes and typefaces, responsiveness considering various devices and sizes of screens of desktops, laptops, tablets, and Smartphones, etc.

Iva is a part time PhD student with the Literacy Research Centre, based in New York, she researches young children’s multilingual literacy learning with tablets. She is the creator of Aniland (aniland.co.uk), an iPad application designed to help provide early literacy knowledge and digital literacy skills to 3-5 year olds. Iva and co-designers, Leecy Li and Ziqu Zou from Parsons School of Design in New York started working on this project in 2014. The app is designed in three main areas, an avatar room, a reading room, and a mini-game room, on topics like alphabet, letter alliteration, and rhyming. The app is available on iTunes for free. 

In 2015 Iva won the President's Commendation for 2015 for her presentation at the at the 42nd LACUS Forum.
