Congratulations to Vicki Haslam and Jonathan Culpeper, both winners in the 2017 Lancaster University Student Led Teaching Awards.

These awards are given annually to members of university staff who make an outstanding contribution to academic life and student experience. They are particularly meaningful because they involve students nominating their lecturers.

Jonathan has been awarded the Undergraduate Teaching Award. This award is given to a member of staff who has shown an outstanding contribution towards leading edge curriculum design and innovative teaching practice.

Vicki has been awarded the Student Experience Impact Award. This award is given to a member of staff that goes above and beyond to improve the student experience.

The winners were invited to attend an awards reception event where they were congratulated and presented with certificates by union Vice-President (Education) Nick Dearman and university Vice-Chancellor Mark E. Smith.

Nick said: "We had nearly 80 nominations in this year's awards, and it's great that students have been so keen to spend a bit of time saying thanks to the staff members who have supported them during their studies. The standard of entries was really high, and I'd like to congratulate our winners and everyone who was nominated for their amazing contribution."

We are proud that several of our colleagues have received awards for their teaching, Sam Kirham won the Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2016. These awards reflect qualities of innovation, commitment, attention to students' learning and to maximising their learning opportunities.
