The application process

Applications are made through UCAS. The deadline for applications to study Foundation Year for Medicine & Surgery (A900) for 2017 entry is 15th October 2016.


Admissions timescales: 2017 entry

1st September 2016

Registration opens for the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT).  

1st October 2016

Registration deadline for the BMAT: Standard fee

15th October 2016

Late registration deadline for the BMAT: Late fee

15th  October 2016

Deadline for applications for the  Medicine and Surgery programme. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.

15th October - end-November

Stage 1: Academic screening of all applicants. Only those who meet our minimum academic entry requirements will progress to Stage 2.

2nd November 2016

Biomedical Admissions Test date

25th November 2016

Biomedical Admissions Test results become available

Stage 2: Applicants ranked according to BMAT score. Top-ranking applicants progress to Stage 3 of the selection process.

December 2016

Stage 3: The personal statements of the top-scoring applicants will be checked to ensure that they meet our non-academic entry requirements. To be invited for interview, applicants must have a competitive BMAT score and demonstrate that they have met our non-academic entry requirements.

January – February 2017

Stage 4: Interview period. Applicants who meet our academic entry requirements (stage 1), have a competitive BMAT score (stage 2) and demonstrate that they fulfil our non-academic entry requirements (stage 3), are called for interview.

March 2017

After all interviews are completed, all applicants are ranked according to their MMI score.  Offers are made to those with the highest MMI scores. 

Conditional and Unconditional offers are confirmed on UCAS track


Unconditional Firm (UF) and Conditional Firm (CF) applicants are sent information about accommodation, finance and registration.


A-level results are published.

CF applicants who have achieved the required grades become UF.


All UF applicants are sent further information about beginning their studies at Lancaster Medical School.
