Stavros Pantos

Country of origin: Greece

Group Risk Manager, Admiral Group plc

I chose to study at LUMS as I was offered a scholarship for having excellent grades during my foundation course. Also, I was impressed by the University’s reputation and rankings as well as the graduate opportunities after my education.

I really enjoyed the unique structure of this intellectually challenging programme in which half of my modules were delivered by the Accounting and Finance Department, one of the best Departments at Lancaster University, and half by the Economics Department. The excellent level of all the modules, in combination with the high teaching quality, extended my knowledge and helped me to gain a solid educational background.

The most fun aspects of university life were the numerous clubs and societies, social and educational events and the College sports events, such as the Founders and the Carter shield where I took part representing Lonsdale College.

During my 3rd year, I completed a three-month placement as part of the Unite with Business programme as a Business Costs Analyst in the Wm Armstrong Group. Then, while attending my MRes in Finance at LUMS I worked as Summer Analyst for Admiral Insurance Group.

I was nominated by LUMS on the basis of having First-class honours from my first year to participate in a study abroad opportunity – Copenhagen Business School’s International Summer University Programme (ISUP). I chose to study two modules different from the ones included in the outline of my curriculum at LUMS: Leading and Managing Organizations and Introduction to Marketing. The year after, I participated at another summer school hosted by our partner institution ESCP Europe Business School.

The Careers support service provided by LUMS, with its excellent and professional team, assisted me in all my job applications and enabled me to attend one-to-one advice meetings, drop-in sessions and employer workshops.

Being at Lancaster has been the greatest learning experience of my life! I feel really privileged to have completed this combined honours degree at a triple-accredited, world-ranked, leading Management School, with an excellent reputation and very good career prospects.

I continued my studies by doing an MRes Finance at LUMS, and then an MSc in Economics at the University of Edinburgh.

Profile update Nov 2020: Stavros is now working as a Group Risk Manager for Admiral Group plc, as well as studying a PhD in Banking Law and Financial Regulation at the University of Reading.
