About the Department of Accounting and Finance

The Department is part of Lancaster University Management School, with a 20-year reputation for producing world-leading research.

The Department of Accounting and Finance takes pride in its established reputation for excellence in both research and teaching. The Higher Education Funding Council for England and its predecessors have consistently ranked the Department in the highest research quality category, corresponding to research of international excellence.

The Department hosts a diverse group of scholars who have reached international reputation in key areas of accounting and finance such as accounting and bank regulation, quality of accounting information and narrative reporting, corporate finance and in particular issues on corporate governance, empirical banking, financial econometrics and market pricing. In any given year the Department hosts about 20 seminars with leading researchers from around the world and has an active visitors program.

An important feature of the Department is its strong commitment towards high-quality education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. All programs offered by the Department enjoy a triple accreditation by the three main business school accreditation bodies: AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB. The Financial Times Global Masters in Finance 2013 ranking placed Lancaster’s MSc in Finance 36th in the world and 11th in the UK. The Department also offers an innovative four-year undergraduate degree scheme, the EY Degree, in partnership with EY and ICAS. The new degree provides students with up to 18 months' paid work experience with EY, and a fast track to qualification as a chartered accountant.
